Message for World Theatre Day – March 27, 2017

Written by Teatrul Regina Maria on 27 Mar, 2017.

The message for WORLD THEATRE DAY is delivered this year by the French actress Isabelle Huppert:

"It has been 55 years since, every spring, a World Theatre Day has taken place. One day, that is, 24 hours, which begin in the area of Noh and Bunraku theatre, pass through Beijing-style opera and Kathakali, stop between Greece and Scandinavia, between Aeschylus and Ibsen, between Sophocles and Strindberg, then between England and Italy, between Sarah Kane and Pirandello, but also in France, where we are and where Paris is, however, the city in the world that receives the most foreign troupes. Next, our 24 hours take us from France to Russia, from Racine and Molière to Chekhov, then cross the Atlantic to stop at a Californian student campus where some young people are perhaps reinventing theatre. Because theatre is always reborn from its own ashes. It is nothing but a convention that must be abolished without delay. That is how it stays alive. Theatre has a rich life that defies space and time, the most contemporary plays are nourished by past centuries, the most classical repertoires become modern every time they are staged again.

National premiere at the Regina Maria Theater: BARACA, by Aiat Fayez

Written by Teatrul Regina Maria on 7 Mar, 2017.

The Regina Maria Theatre is pleased to announce the national premiere of the play "Baraca", by Aiat Fayez, which enjoys the directorial and scenographic signature of Tudor Lucanu. The premiere will take place on Saturday, March 11, at 7:00 PM, at the Arcadia Hall. The author of the play, Aiat Fayez (b. 1979), is a contemporary playwright of Iranian origin, who immigrated to Paris to study philosophy. Shortly after publishing his first novel, in 2009 – "Cycle des manières de mourir", which deals with the theme FOREIGNER from the immigrant's perspective – he moves to Vienna, where he will dedicate himself entirely to writing. He publishes two more novels and writes several plays that are successful and attract the attention of French theater people as well. Thus, in 2015, at the suggestion of director Ludovic Lagarde, he writes the text "Baraca", especially for the TERRORisms project, initiated by the "Union of Theaters in Europe" and financed by the Creative Europe Program, which was staged at the Comedy Theater in Reims.

THE SHOW "A VERY SIMPLE STORY" AWARDED AT RESIŞA

Written by Teatrul Regina Maria on 6 Mar, 2017.

The show "A Very Simple Story", by Maria Lado, directed by Elvira Rîmbu, returned from the third edition of the "Scena ca o stradă" International Theatre Festival, organized by the West Theatre of Reşiţa, crowned with success. No prizes were awarded during the festival, but based on forms filled out by the spectators, a special audience prize was established, and the honorable title went to the performance from Oradea.

The success enjoyed by the Oradea troupe was also recorded by the press from Reșiști, which perfectly captured the emotion and the connection that was created between the stage and the audience: "you can't imagine how much emotion there was in the hall, how much electricity between the stage and the audience. Well, at the end, some were leaving the hall crying, others laughing! I won't go on, I'll just say that this show "melted" us and humanized us!" (Matei Marcione, Are you telling me that the sow flies?! A very simple story!, in: "Argument")

The International Theatre Festival "Scena ca o Stradă" took place between 10-20 February 2017, during which the audience from Reși enjoyed 22 theatre performances from Romania and abroad, book launches, theatre courses (workshops), painting exhibitions and debates. The special guest of this edition was the playwright Matei Vișniec, present at the premiere of the show "Migraaanți", directed by Ovidiu Caița, set designer Oana Cernea.

We thank the audience in Reşiţa for the love they rewarded us with!

FIFTH PREMIERE OF THE IOSIF VULCAN TROPE OF THE 2016-2017 SEASON

Written by Teatrul Regina Maria on 18 Jan, 2017.

The Regina Maria Theater is pleased to announce the fifth premiere of the Iosif Vulcan Troupe of the 2016-2017 season: "Isabela, three caravels and a great liar", by Dario Fo, directed by Eugen Gyemant, which will take place on Saturday, January 21, at 7:00 PM, at the Great Hall.

Dario Fo (born March 24, 1926, Sangiano, Italy – died October 13, 2016, Milan), a contemporary playwright, set designer and actor, is a complex artistic personality, being particularly renowned for his dramatic texts of political and social satire. He was a laureate of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1997, but his subversive humor also created a series of problems for him, so that he often had to face censorship, death threats, bans and even criticism from the Catholic Church.

WALKING THROUGH THE WORLD OF THE LUCEAFĂRULUI ~performance-recital based on the lyrics of the poet Mihai Eminescu~

Written by Teatrul Regina Maria on 12 Jan, 2017.

The Regina Maria Theater has the honor of inviting you to a very special theatrical evening, dedicated to the 167th anniversary of the birth of the great poet Mihai Eminescu: the recital-performance "Caroling through the world of Luceafărului". We will be led slowly through Eminescu's lyrical universe by the actor who knew how to best portray the purity of poetic form on stage: Eugen Țugulea, laureate in 2016 of the UNITER award for a life dedicated to theater and poetry.

The lyrical journey will be harmoniously accompanied by the graceful voices of the soloists of the Crișana Professional Artistic Ensemble: Simona Costin, Otilia Haragoș, Felicia Costin, Luminița Tomuța, Cornelia Covaciu and by the magical music that emerges from the keyboard of pianist Henrietta Varady.

PREMIERES OF DECEMBER 2016

Written by Teatrul Regina Maria on 15 Dec, 2016.
The Regina Maria Theater announces the premiere of the shows "The Little Prince", adapted from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, directed by Marius Costache, and "Confused Holidays", directed by Florian Silaghi. Two shows that are especially aimed at children, but also at those who let their imagination take them and keep fantasy in their souls. "The Little Prince" is one of the most famous and beloved literary works, having been translated into more than 250 languages and dialects and adapted to numerous other forms of art, including theater. However, the charm that Saint-Exupéry's story exerts on readers does not only transcend linguistic and artistic boundaries, but also a much more significant one on a human level: age. Thus, the adventures of the little boy who travels the galaxy to discover what love, friendship, loneliness and death mean can be enjoyed equally by both innocent children and adults, even if they always need clarification. Director Marius Costache managed to recreate the enchanting universe of the story on the stage of the Regina Maria Theater, preserving the specific candor, but also the deeply philosophical side of the opera. The show, therefore, is not only addressed to middle school children, but also to teenagers who are just stepping into another dimension, that of mature people and even adults, who live alone on their own planets and are always absorbed by such trivial things. The premiere took place today, December 15, at 12:00, at the Arcadia Hall, and at the Great Hall it will take place tomorrow, December 16, at 11:00. The general public is invited to enjoy the enchanting story on Saturday, January 14, at 11:00, at the Arcadia Hall. Until the next interplanetary journey, the little pilots are invited to a show that will fill their souls with the magic of the winter holidays. Like every year, the Regina Maria Theater has prepared a special Christmas show, this time given with all the love by the Arcadia Troupe to all the children in the world, whether they are good or bad: "(Happy) Confused Holidays", directed by Florian Silaghi. The children will meet the disgruntled, mischievous elf, who instead of being obedient and completing his work, gets into mischief. But, like disobedient children, the "gift" he will receive will be commensurate with his deeds. But not all elves are bad, and those who are good may even have magical powers. If you don't believe me, we invite you on Sunday, December 18, from 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, to the Arcadia Hall to convince yourself. Especially since our magical elves will need a little help from you to wrap the presents for the good children. "(Happy) Confused Holidays", a magical show, recommended for children from 3 years old, with Eduard Malița, Bianca Onița, Andrei Fazecaș and Egyed Consuela, directed by Florian Silaghi. Tickets are on sale at the theater's Ticket Agency from Monday to Friday between 10:00 and 19:00, and on weekends between 10:00 and 13:00. You can also purchase tickets one hour before each show or online at www.biletmaster.ro. For additional information and ticket reservations, please call: 0259/440.742. Please note that after the show starts, access to the hall is only allowed during the break, and the validity of the seat is lost. We are waiting for you at the theater!

QUEEN MARIA THEATRE AT THE ARAD AND CLUJ-NAPOCA FESTIVALS

Written by Teatrul Regina Maria on 29 Nov, 2016.

The success of a show is confirmed by the long applause of the audience and the appreciation of the critics. The Regina Maria Theater has long since surpassed its own borders and has enjoyed such magnificent experiences everywhere it has stopped. We returned from Galaţi victorious and awarded, but the Arad audience also received us as lovingly as every year.

„"Mr. Jurdan" won the hearts of all who crossed the threshold of his extravagant house and was rewarded with a lot of laughter and well-deserved applause at the end (Marius Oliviu, "Romanian Theatre"). His emphatic spirit overflowed with energy and caused a sensation on Friday, November 18, at the 22nd edition of the Arad International Classical Theatre Festival.

„"Mr. Jourdain" is a dramatic rewrite of the comedy "The Bourgeois Gentleman" by Jean Baptiste Poquelin Molière and "The Cursed Jourdain" by Mikhail Bulgakov, under the stage direction of Victor Ioan Frunză, who succeededANDit to create a variant that workedÞexcellently decorated, where kitsch ANDand ignoranceÞI am at home, where nothing is too much, too flashy, or too bombastic. A play that led to a happy endingANDthat's what ANDhe proposed: show exactly how embarrassing it is to-ÞYou take on something that doesn't define you.ANDyou. (Raluca Medeleanu, „The king of glitter kitsch – with lots and lots of glitter.

From Arad, we headed to another festival with tradition, the International Theatre Festival "Interferences", organized by the Hungarian State Theatre Cluj-Napoca, with the show "In the Heart of the Night - Episode Lear". Performed in a post-industrial, apocalyptic space - namely Hala Remarul, the show revealed new valences, new perspectives of interpretation that surprised and challenged at the same time. Loaded with significance, with an imaginary and ritualistic universe offering, "Episode Lear" fascinated so much that the audience went beyond their own comfort to enjoy each nuance at leisure. Two performances were performed, on November 26, at 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM, both enjoying a large audience, among which were also guests from abroad.

We were also honored with the presence of renowned theater scholar George Banu and literary critic Sorin Alexandrescu, who, together with director Gavriil Pinte, playwright András Visky and director Tompa Gabor - director of the Hungarian Theater, held a conference about the show, organized as part of the festival the next day at Casa Tiff.

After so many successes, we return home confident and honored, thoroughly preparing for the month ahead, a month full of wonderful shows dedicated to a special audience!
